«Gadagne » – Côtes du Rhône Villages Gadagne

« Its substance, its roundness, its length in the mouth, the subtlety of its tannins make this wine at ease on the most beautiful tables. It is the ideal companion to the most distinctive regional dishes. »
M&R Janer

Grape Varieties: Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre

Wine Making: The destemmed and crushed harvest is vinified in the traditional way, in 3 phases: cold pre-fermentation, alcoholic fermentation, post-fermentation maceration. The vatting is short (about twenty days) and the temperature maintained below 26°C, to keep all the fruit of the ripe grapes. After malolactic fermentation, the wines are aged in vats for 24 months and then bottled.

Tasting Recommendations: Temperature 15 – 16 °C

Brilliant and intense purple colour. The bouquet offers aromas of ripe red fruits and garrigue with a note of cocoa. In the mouth, the fruity aromas dominate a frank attack, the tannins are silky and the final, intense and spicy invites to the gastronomic marriage.

Pairing: Milk-fed lamb roasted with thyme, wild boar stew, salardaise salad…

Ageing: 4-7 years

Available Bottling: 75 cl and 150 cl

Clos de Saumanes, Côtes du Rhône Villages Gadagne 2015

Martine and Robert Janer arrived at this 24-ha property from Troyes in 2008, having spent a year and a half looking for a suitable domain to restore (the former name was Domaine Deforge).  The 2015, a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre crafted by winemaker Matthieu Wild, has rich plum-bramble scents and a primary black-fruit style on the palate, too: deep, chunky and chewy, with the distinctive Gadagne spicy finish.  91
